I have been to a lot of places in Western NC and Montreat is definitely one of the most beautiful places around. It’s a college town, but also a whole community. The whole area is full of amazing architecture and gardens. The bride’s parents have a home on campus and were actually married in the same chapel years ago. I was fortunate enough to photograph Ivy’s parents a couple of days before the wedding and gotten to know everyone. Ivy had surprised them with an ‘engagement session’ for their 30th anniversary and had me come out and take some photos of the two of them.
The day of the wedding we had quite a bit of rain, but we made the best of it and rain in and out when the rain would break and get as many photos as we could. Luckily we were at two amazing places and finding good photo spots was as easy as turning your head to one side or the other. Ivy and Matt did a first look, did some bride and groom photos and then did all the Bridal Party and Family photos before the ceremony. They wanted to do it that way so we could shoot right over to Taylor Ranch immediately following the wedding ceremony.
Taylor Ranch is a super relaxed, really beautiful venue tucked in the hills off of Cane Creek Road in Fairview. The venue itself sits on a small lake, surrounded by pastures for cows and huge, old trees. The rain quit about 10 minutes before we got to Taylor Ranch, so we were able to get lots of outdoor shots. Ivy and Matt were huge troopers and braved the wet grass and puddles in order to get to really beautiful areas. The crowd was incredibly nice and a ton of fun. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen so few people NOT dancing. The dance floor was jam packed from the first second the dj started playing till even after the bride and groom left for the night.
